AIZAWL: Mizoram school education minister Lalchhandama Ralte on Friday said 28 Myanmarese refugees taking shelter in the state have passed the high school leaving certificate (HSLC) exam with flying colours. A special test was held for the refugees who had completed Class X.
Ralte said more than 6,000 young refugees were admitted in schools across the state after they fled the conflict zones in Myanmar following the military coup there in February last year.

"The students from Myanmar were provided textbooks and school uniforms, free of cost, by the Mizoram government. Free midday meals were also provided to them just like the other students of primary and middle schools in the state," he said.
About 300 Myanmarese students used to cross the bridge over the Mizoram-Myanmar border river Tiau in Champhai district to attend schools in Zokhawthar and the surrounding villages after violent clashes broke out between the local civilian resistance groups and the Myanmar army.
