World over, the drive and pursuit for implementing technological tools and digitisation are gaining momentum and India isn't left behind either. A Gurugram-based non-profit organisation, Reach to Teach (RTT) founded in 2003 by London-based investor Sanjeev Gandhi has been working steadily in this direction. The organisation partners with state governments for improving the quality of teaching and learning outcomes in government schools.
The organisation worked for the first time in the Kutch district of Gujarat across 26 government schools and benefited more than 4000 children. Until now, RTT has benefited 80 lakh schoolchildren.
RTT continues to work on improving learning skills in remote and rural areas across various states of the country. A look at the working approach of the organisation:
  • The organisation works at a systemic level and works by developing its existing wide range of work with various communities in the education field for the last 10 years
  • RTT uses the right technology to reach out and cover a maximum number of students
  • The organisation operates and controls the various programmes from its corporate office in Gurugram and coordinates with offices located in other states
  • The organisation works on the principle of creating a conducive environment and thus engaging teachers, school principals, parents, and the community to transform education in government schools, Ratna Viswanathan, CEO of Reach To Teach explained to SocialStory
  • RTT works in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and employs an evidence-based design approach for developing sustainable teaching frameworks that can fulfil the specific needs of a particular state
  • RTT enhances the state education department's capacity for gauging objectively school performance and identifying critical areas of improvement through right indicators and by creating school development plans (SPD)
  • RTT has engaged with altogether 50,225 government schools, and positively influenced 80 lakh school-going children

RTT has worked with various states in implementing technology-based learning and ensuring quality education in remote areas. A look at some of the important initiatives conducted in these states:
  • Currently, RTT is working with the Gujarat, Haryana, and Arunachal Pradesh government to improve the quality of education in remote areas by using the required technology and innovative tools
  • In its ongoing project with the Arunachal Pradesh government and the NITI Aayog, RTT enabled the large-scale transformation of schools with the help of a technical expert
  • It mainly focuses on improving the numeracy (FLN), foundational literacy, and continuous professional development (CPD) of teachers and education department officials
  • For this, the organisation will support the state government in developing a complete blueprint of learning resources, implementation strategy for teaching, and, and improving governance through robust data management systems
  • The project will be covering all government schools of the state, and over 2 lakh children under NITI Aayog’s Development Support Services for States (DSSS)
  • In its work with the Gujarat state education department since 2007, RTT through the aid of the World Bank and AIIB provided academic and technical support units
  • It has also been working with Haryana's department of school education (DSE) for designing and creating a robust accreditation framework and the leadership development of head teachers across the state

RTT also supported the accreditation framework of the tech version of Gunotsav, Gunotsav 2.0 and also facilitated the professional development of teachers. The British organisation works towards achieving the SDG 4 goals of UNESCO for ensuring accessibility and affordability of quality education to all students.
