The Assam government announced its plan to digitally assess the teachers to bring about transparency in the educational setup of Assam's government schools. The government launched an online portal to assess the performance of teachers in government-run schools.
The government launched the app under Samagra Shiksha Mission, wherein the education officers will monitor the performance of contractual teachers.
Nearly 35,000 contractual teachers will have to appear and qualify for an online assessment to continue their jobs. The web portal was inaugurated by the State Education Minister, Manoj Pegu, on September 21.
The teachers will be assessed with the help of the portal in these ways:
  • The contractual teachers will have to first register their names on the website for review
  • Then the contractual and state pool teachers will have to provide their self-appraisal reports online that will be accessed by the head teacher of the concerned school, block approval authority (BAA), and district approval authority (DAA)
  • This criterion will be implemented for teachers who have qualified for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET)
  • The teachers will have to explain their method of teaching, explain their class schedule in the respective subjects
  • They will also explain the activities they conducted in the online appraisal
  • In case of violation of any criterion, the jobs could be terminated
  • There will be a 50-mark assessment at t each level, which will be followed up by a final assessment where the teacher should score an average mark out of 150
  • In the case of a head teacher, the total marks for assessment will be 100 and the assessment will carry 50 marks at each block and district level
  • The final assessment will be done by the state approval authority, which will then provide the final approval

According to an official report, contractual teachers constitute 40% of the total teacher strength at the elementary level in government-run schools in Assam.
