After a prolonged break of ten years, the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for assembly elections, with the previous one conducted in 2014. The PDP-BJP coalition government fell apart in June 2018 when the BJP withdrew its support to the then-chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti. The Election Commission of India has declared the polling dates for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The UT will undergo elections in three phases, commencing on September 18. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 4. The second phase of the assembly elections will take place on September 25, followed by the third phase on October 1. These elections mark the first assembly polls in J&K since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019.
