Sreelekha Mitra is taking a break from the angst of Kolkata. The actress, who has been actively taking part in demonstrations and protests over the RG Kar rape-murder incident, is hitting the brakes for a while. The actress recently posted a video on her

Sreelekha recently posted a video on her Instagram account that hinted at the actress getting packed for a trip. The actress revealed that she was going on a solo trip ahead of her birthday. Sreelekha said in the video, “It’s my birthday tomorrow and I’m running away today. I don’t know if this can be called ‘running away’, but I’m leaving the city behind to breathe better in the lap of nature. I’m going on a solo trip, on my own.” The actress flaunted a black ribbon bracelet tied in her wrist and said that she would keep it till justice was served. Sreelekha added that books and self-introspection would keep her company on this solo trip. The actress also admitted that she would be missing her parents very much. Sreelekha said that this solo trip was kind of a spiritual journey for her.
Earlier, Sreelekha revealed on
Facebook that she was uninstalling the app in search of some peace. She wrote , “Birthday wishes, parties are not appeasing to me anymore. I’m sensitive because I’m an artist, not a celebrity. I’m not able to handle this much stress. The circumstances are exhausting me. I need a break for a few days. I’d rather not be contacted for a while.”
For the unversed, August 30 marks the birthday of Sreelekha Mitra. It is evident from her posts now that the actress will be bringing in her birthday in solitude.
Sreelekha’s decision to withdraw from social media comes after the actress raised her concern regarding the charter of demands issued by the Women’s Forum for Screen Workers. A few days ago, the Women’s Forum for Screen Workers issued a charter of demands to ensure the safety and security of women, queer, non-binary and trans folk in the workplace. However, Sreelekha called the charter ‘an eyewash’ and claimed that many of the artists who signed the charter nurtured a patriarchal mentality. Sreelekha added that she was cast away from the collective a few years ago and accused of playing the victim card.
A few days back, Sreelekha came out with allegations of making improper advances against a renowned Malayalam director. Sreelekha narrated how she was inappropriately touched by the said director and when she called him out for his improper advances, she lost out on work.
