In the IPL eliminator, Rajasthan Royals (RR) broke their five-match winless streak by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by four wickets in the IPL 2024 Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday. This victory halted RCB's dream comeback, ending their six-game winning streak. RR now advances to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 in Chennai, with the winner meeting Kolkata Knight Riders in the final on Sunday.
Chasing 173, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dropped early by Cameron Green, and he capitalized by hitting three fours off Yash Dayal and combining with Tom Kohler-Cadmore to take boundaries off Mohammed Siraj. Kohler-Cadmore survived a drop by Glenn Maxwell but was soon dismissed by Lockie Ferguson with a slower yorker in the last over of the Power-play.
Jaiswal and Sanju Samson added three boundaries off Swapnil Singh, but Jaiswal fell attempting a scoop off Green, and Samson was stumped against Karn Sharma. Shimron Hetmyer began to settle RR’s nerves with a six off Green, while Riyan Parag hit an inside-out six and a ramped four in a 17-run 16th over. Hetmyer added two more fours off Dayal, bringing the equation to 19 off 18 balls.
However, Parag (36 off 26) was bowled by Siraj, and Hetmyer was caught off a leading edge three balls later, bringing a twist in the game. With 13 needed off 12 balls, Rovman Powell hit two consecutive fours off Ferguson and finished the chase with a lofted drive, ensuring RR’s progression.
RCB's batting faltered at crucial moments. Contributions from Virat Kohli (33), Rajat Patidar (34), and Mahipal Lomror (32) weren’t enough to set a daunting target, ending their innings at 172/8.
