In a recent interview with the Instagram channel Salary Scale, an Indian couple residing in Canada shared valuable insights into their careers in the tech industry, including their salaries and advice for others looking to achieve similar financial success. The discussion provides a glimpse into how targeted skill enhancement can lead to lucrative job opportunities in today's competitive market.

Indian techie couple professional background and earnings

The couple, both employed in the tech sector, revealed that they each earn CAD $100,000 annually, resulting in a combined family income of CAD $200,000 (approximately Rs 1.2 crore). The husband works as a programmer, while his wife holds a position in a support role. Their experience underscores the potential for substantial earnings within the tech industry, particularly for those who continuously develop their skills.

Pathways to earning similar incomes

When asked about how others can achieve similar salaries, the husband emphasised the importance of pursuing technical certifications. He recommended certifications such as Hadoop and Cloud Certifications, which are highly valued in the job market. He stated, “You can go for a technical certification, like there is Hadoop certification. There is Cloud Certification.” These credentials can significantly enhance job prospects and earning potential.

Management certifications

For individuals interested in management roles, the couple highlighted certifications like Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) and Project Management Professional (PMP). The husband remarked, “PMP really helps,” echoing the sentiments of his wife, who agreed with this assessment. These certifications are recognized for their ability to bolster leadership skills and project management capabilities, making candidates more attractive to employers.

Addressing concerns about the current value of certifications, particularly the PMP, the husband noted that their significance may differ across various domains within the tech industry. He explained, “It depends on which domain you are in. For example, there are domains where if you have a cloud certification, you will get the job easily. There are domains where if you have a cybersecurity certification, you will get the job easily. It all depends on which domain you are working on in IT.”

While some may argue that the PMP certification has diminished in value due to its accessibility, he countered this perspective by emphasising the necessity of effective team management: “There has to be someone to manage the team, right.” This underscores the ongoing demand for qualified project managers in the tech landscape.
