North Korea carried out its sixth nuclear test on September 03, 2017. This is the first test during the Trump administration and the first reaching the explosive power characteristic of a hydrogen bomb, toughening and tightening of international sanctions is the inevitable and necessary first response.

The country claims that it has developed a more advanced nuclear weapon that can be loaded on to a ballistic missile. The state news agency released pictures of leader Kim Jong-un inspecting what it said was a new hydrogen bomb. There has been no independent verification of the claims.

International experts say the North has made advances in its nuclear weapons capabilities but it is unclear if it has successfully miniaturised a nuclear weapon it can load on to a missile.

The scientists from Seoul and Tokyo said that “Under the leadership of Kim Jong-Un, North Korea on September 15, 2017 fired an unidentified missile eastwards over Japan.”

The launch, from near Pyongyang, came after UN Security Council imposed an eighth set of sanctions on North Korea over its banned missile and nuclear programmes.

This was done in response to its sixth nuclear test, which was by far its largest, earlier in September 2017, which Pyongyang said was a hydrogen bomb small enough to fit onto a missile.
