Synopsis

Rama, prince of Ayodhya, won the hand of the beautiful princess Sita, but was exiled with her and his brother Laksmana for 14 years through the plotting of his stepmother. In the forest Sita was abducted by Ravana, and Rama with the help of Son of Vayu, Hanuman, gathered an army of monkeys and bears to search for her. The allies attacked Lanka, killed Ravana, and rescued Sita. After the couple's triumphant return to Ayodhya, Rama's righteous rule (Ram-raj) inaugurated a golden age for all mankind.The epic's poetic stature and marvelous story means that the story of Rama has been constantly retold by some of India's greatest writers both in Sanskrit and regional languages. It is one of the staples of various dramatic traditions, in court drama, dance-dramas, and in shadow-puppet theatres. In northern India, the annual Ram-lila or 'Rama-play' is performed at the autumn festival of Dassehra to celebrate with Rama and Sita the eventual triumph of light over darkness.Ramyug the latest visual interpretation of this ancient text, seeks to bring modern technology in a never before used manner to narrate the epic.

Cast & Crew

Episode 1 - Prem
The Love for his wife, made Rama chase a deer he knew to be an illusion/a trick, magic by the evil forces. Rama returns only to find Sita is missing,

The love Rama had for Sita began even before he saw her, when she was described to him by Vishwamitra. Daughter of the earth, from the earth, someone as pure as Sita was the only woman for Rama.

The love for Sita gets Rama to lift the Dhanush that no man could till Rama.

The love for Sita drives Rama to search for her when she’s kidnapped by Ravana, A search and quest for his love, that brings him face to face with the love of devotion, the devotional love of Hanuman.

Episode 2 - Karm
The story of Sugreeva & Vali is intertwined in Karma. Rama & Lakshman join the story of Sugreeva through Hanuman and each character plays his part in doing their karma and bringing the story of Sugreeva and Vali to its conclusion and taking the Ramayana further as Sugreeva and the vanar sena join forces with Rama.

Sita shows in captivity too Karma is of prime importance.

Hanuman, a true Karma Yogi, is sent to Lanka where he meets Sita, in fulfilling his Karma he lets himself get captured.

Episode 3 – Dhoka
The wise sage Agastya informs Rama of how the evil forces of Ravana are making their way into the hearts and minds of the people and are taking over not just their minds but also their land. Ravana’s forces have made inroads into India via deceit. Rama assures the wise sage that he will counter this deceit.

Rama, Sita & Lakshman also meet Jatayu who tells them about the deceitful ways of Ravana.

Through all this Rama, Sita and Lakshman set up their house and live happily for a few years.

Until the arrival of the deceitful Shrupnakha.

Even though her brothers are killed by Rama and Lakshman humiliates Shrupnakha by cutting off her nose, she deceives her own brother Ravana for her personal vengeance against him. Another deceit of a very high order by a sister to her brother who we realize was the reason for her husband’s death.

While the deception and illusion of the deer aided Ravana to kidnap Sita, Hanuman deceived Meghnad and got himself in front of Ravana

Episode 4 - Dharma
Upholding his Dharma Hanuman Burns Lanka, returns to Rama and gives him the bracelet Sita gave him, making Rama miss his beloved wife even more and set up his army as his Dharma.

Ravana does his Dharma by trying to scare Sita, but being on the side of the right and truth Sita’s Dharma is much stronger than Ravana’s and she stands tall.

Mandodri fires Ravana doing her Dharma.

Rama remembers his training with Vishwamitra, his Dharma as a student.

Vibheeshana joins Rama, he realizes his true Dharma in life is to support the right even if it means going against his brother.

Rama prays to the sea god in continuation with his Dharma to rescue his wife and the vanar sena builds the Ram Setu bridge.

Finally, a true husband doing his true Dharma reaches Lanka, Ram sets foot in Lanka

Episode 5 – Vuchan
Vishwamitra promises Dashratha that he will impart the knowledge of the universe to his son Rama.

In keeping his vuchan to protect his guru Rama kills Tadka & Subahu, the start of his battle against evil, a promise he made as a student and again as a grown man to vanquish evil.

Dashratha proposes to give Ayodhya to Rama, however a vachan he gave to Kaikeyi makes him alter his decision. The vachan Sita made while she married Rama makes her renounce the kingdom along with him Rama

Episode 6 – Sungharsh
Rama Lakshman & Sita, leave Ayodhya to begin their Sungharsh. The people of Ayodhya follow them. Kevat proves to be a loyal aide to Rama.

Dashratha sungharsh lies deep rooted in his past. The curse of Shravan Kumar’s parents, made Dashratha breathe his last separated from Rama. Bharat comes to Rama with the sad news and thus begins the sunghursh of Bharat’s life.

The final sunghursh, the battle of Good vs evil begins as Rama’s army takes on Ravana’s.

Episode 7 - Yudh
Yudh, battle, never has any winners and always injures a few along the way. Rama & Lakshman fall early to the scheming Meghnad. Sita prays for their recovery.

Lakshman falls. Hanuman goes to recover the Sanjeevani mountain. The battle rages on with Ravana’s sons and brothers falling one after the other.

Episode 8 – Saaransh

The true meaning of the battle of good vs evil as Rama and Ravana take on each other in the battle field, to yield a result we all know, but to explain the saraansh of it all, the real reason the saraansh of the agnipareeksha, the return of Rama to Ayodhya, the need of the hour, Ramyug. It all comes together in the finale of Ramyug. The saraansh of life and Ramyug. Not an end, the beginning of the understanding of Ramyug. Of Life itself.
