Kiran Rao’s 'Laapataa Ladies' has been chosen as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025, aiming for a nomination in the Best Foreign Film category. But did you know, Aamir Khan, who backed the film also auditioned for Ravi Kishan’s role but was rejected?
Yes, you read it right! During his conversation with ABP Majha Aamir Khan revealed that he had been eager to take on a role in 'Laapataa Ladies' because of the compelling story and an interesting character he was drawn to.
The actor noted that he had suggested the film to Kiran Rao, thinking she might like it. However, Kiran expressed concerns, telling him that as a big star, his presence might overshadow the small-scale film. Despite this, Aamir insisted on giving a screen test to see if he would fit the role.
Aamir explained that after giving the screen test, both he and Kiran Rao liked the outcome, but they both feared that his involvement as a star might raise audience expectations. As a result, they agreed that he shouldn't be part of the film.
The '3 Idiots' actor even suggested undergoing a complete transformation in appearance, similar to what Robert Downey Jr. did in 'Tropic Thunder'. However, Kiran wasn’t convinced and responded with, “Toh faida kya hai?” (What's the point?), dissuading him from pursuing the idea further.
For the unversed, Kiran Rao's 'Laapataa Ladies' follows the misadventures of two young brides who mysteriously go missing while travelling on the same train. It is adapted from an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami.
