Olivia Nuzzi, a Washington correspondent for New York Magazine, has been placed on leave following allegations of a romantic relationship with former presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr. The alleged relationship reportedly began sometime after Nuzzi wrote a profile on RFK Jr in November 2023, according to sources cited by STATUS news.
Nuzzi recently admitted to the magazine's editors that "she had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign, a violation of the magazine's standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures."
The magazine said that had they been aware of the relationship, Nuzzi would have been prohibited from covering the presidential election.
In a statement, the magazine said, "An internal review of her published work has found no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias. She is currently on leave from the magazine, and the magazine is conducting a more thorough third-party review." They also expressed regret for the "violation of our readers' trust."
However, Kennedy's camp denied the existence of a relationship between the two. A spokesperson said, "Mr Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece."
According to a source, Nuzzi did not use Kennedy as a source while covering the elections. Another person familiar with the situation told STATUS news that the pair are believed to have become romantically involved around the new year.
Kennedy, 70, has been married to his third wife, 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' actor Cheryl Hines, since 2014. He launched his presidential campaign on the Democratic ticket in April 2023, challenging incumbent President
Joe Biden.
