- Joseph (Joe) Robinette Biden Jr, 77, is the Democratic Party's Presidential candidate for the US elections in 2020 and has served as the Vice President under Barack Obama's presidency for two terms. Biden, who has a law degree, was re-elected six times to the US Senate and was the fourth-most senior senator when he resigned after winning the vice presidency. Biden ran two unsuccessful presidential campaigns in the past and this will be his third bid for the White House, and the first as his party’s presumptive nominee.

- 1972 He wins US Senate election in Delaware, becoming the sixth-youngest senator in American history at 30. His wife and daughter are killed in a car accident a few weeks later.
- 1978 Biden is re-elected to the US Senate by defeating John Burris 60% to 40%. He would go on to get re-elected five more times in 1984, 1990, 1996, 2002, and 2008
- 1981 He becomes ranking minority member of the US Senate Committee on the Judiciary
- 1987 Biden declares candidacy for presidential race for the first time. He withdraws from the race a few months later after being accused of plagiarizing a speech made by a British Labor Party leader.
- 1988 He is hospitalised for brain aneurysms and undergoes two surgeries.

- 2007 Biden declares candidacy for the 2008 presidential elections
- 2008 Withdraws from the presidential race. In August, Obama announces that Biden would be his running mate.

Trump has almost always been in the public eye, whether with his real estate deals, his bankruptcy or his reality show, The Apprentice. Trump had earlier sought a presidential nomination in 2000 from the little-known Reform Party, but called off his campaign
