The Ducati Multistrada 1260 Enduro recently arrived in India, starting at Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). In the adventure-cum-touring segment of premium motorcycles, the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure and Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx offers the rider with similar choices.

NEW DELHI: The Ducati Multistrada 1260 Enduro was launched in India, starting at Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Aimed at more off-road expertise, the new one takes the place of the Multistrada 1200 Enduro. In the adventure-cum-touring segment of premium motorcycles, the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure and Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx offers the rider with similar choices.
These ADVs are capable of living the best of both worlds, so let's find out how these sample of the specifications sheet.
What pulls the heavy-duty ADVs?
The BMW R 1250 GS Adventure and the Ducati Multistrada 1260 Enduro carry an L-twin and Boxer-twin engine respectively. While all the three motorcycles have similar engine displacement, Triumph features its in-line triple in the Tiger 1200 XCx.
Ducati

Ducati offering takes a lead on the power delivery front with 156 bhp at 9,500 rpm, followed by Tiger (139 bhp at 9,350 rpm) and BMW (134 bhp at 7,750 rpm). However, the name of the game is torque and R 1250 GS has the greatest pulling power of 143 Nm, which kicks in earlier than others (at 6,250 rpm).

Rapid upshifts or downshifts are not an issue in any of the dynamic motorcycles, thanks to a 6-speed gearbox coupled with a bi-directional quick shifter.

How good are the cycle parts?
Excellent. The price of the motorcycles shoot above Rs 17 lakh and that leaves no room of complain on paper in terms of the cycle parts used. The Ducati and Tiger are around two-and-a-half-quintals, while the GS is 20 kilos heavier.
BMW

The Enduro and Tiger ride on 48 mm USDs while using Ducati's skyhook suspension and WP suspensions respectively. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line in the GS family wears a 37 mm tele-lever upside-down forks. The GS is tallest (seat height: 890 mm) and most compact (wheelbase: 1,504 mm) in the trio. The GS also offers the largest suspension travel (front: 210 mm and rear: 220 mm), while Tiger and Multistrada 1260 Enduro have a reach under 200 mm at both ends.

Electronics ... anything misses?

The new Ducati Multistrada is equipped with four riding modes, cornering ABS (anti-lock braking system), eight-step traction control and three types of power output. Triumph supplies five riding modes (road, sport, track, off-road and off-road pro) on the Tiger apart from electrically adjustable windscreen, cornering ABS, cruise control, traction control, and heated grips. A 5-inch TFT display is common in Triumph and Ducati.

With two standard riding modes (rain and road), the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure has a world to offer in the form of the Pro package. In Pro mode, the rider takes it to another level of off-roading, aided by dynamic traction control, hill control, and brake assistant. Well, the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure Pro package is Rs 3.7 lakh dearer to the standard variant.
Who would buy?
Packed with superlative power and assisted by updated electronics, all the three ADVs are aimed at more composed and experienced riders while the price point is definitely going to break the bank. The Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx's entry price point of Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom) is the most affordable of them, followed by the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure. For the Italian ADV, the rider needs to shell over Rs 3 lakh to purchase it.
