Newborn sold by mother: Tripura CM says his govt working to prevent such incidents in future

Claiming that selling of children was common during the Left Front rule, the CM wondered as to why it suddenly happened in a district like Dhalai where the govt provides 10% extra funds for development and welfare.
“There are some social problems. Whenever we receive such information, the administration immediately addresses it. I asked the chief Secretary for a detailed report and he provided me with all the information, including financial assistance to the family. We must create more social awareness to prevent such incidents in the coming days,” Saha said.
Sources said Marmari Tripura, a widow who delivered her sixth child, reportedly gave the baby to a family based in Agartala because she had no money. The family gave her Rs 5,000 for treatment and other medical expenses.
Meanwhile, leader of opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, in a letter to chief secretary J K Sinha on Monday, thanked and appreciated the administration for recovering and returning the newborn baby to her mother.
