Pilibhit: SP Avinash Pandey issued orders on Friday directing the circle officer of Puranpur, Alok Singh, to probe a case involving the gang rape of a 36-year-old woman from a village under the jurisdiction of Puranpur Kotwali police station, after the latter submitted a written complaint to him claiming her repeated attempts to seek legal recourse against the accused were denied by the local police.
According to the woman, the incident occurred on May 14 when she visited Puranpur city to collect medicine from her doctor. In her complaint, she alleged that the accused, 35-year-old man from the same city, met her there. “As he was an electrician who had previously repaired the ceiling fans at my residence several times, was known to me, I accepted a cold drink from him. After consuming it, I lost consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness several hours later, I realised that I had been sexually assaulted by him and two others at his residence,” she said.
“Although I filed a written complaint at the police station the following day, my husband and I were detained by the cops for several hours, and the filing of the FIR was refused. The police did not even arrange for the medical examination,” she added.
Meanwhile, Anita Chaurasia, former chief medical superintendent of the district women’s hospital, said conducting a medical test on the survivor now, over 10 days after the incident, would likely yield inconclusive results.
