Chandigarh: UT police arrested a man with
heroin from near ISBT-43. Cops claimed to have seized 22g heroin from the accused, identified as Harsh alias Chandi (20), a resident of Sector 52, Chandigarh. A local court sent him to judicial custody. Earlier the accused raised suspicion when he tried to escape after noticing cops. The cops chased him down and later seized the contraband from him.
Visa aspirant duped of ₹20LChandigarh: UT police booked owners and employees of an immigration firm for allegedly duping a person of Rs 20.5 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad.
The complainant, Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Mohali, alleged that he had approached a firm run by Bhagat Singh and others in Sector 41 for a Canadian visa. The accused allegedly took Rs 20.5 lakhs from him. When he didn’t get a visa, the victim filed a complaint at SSP public window. After verifying facts, police registered a case.
Man posts ad on app, connedPanchkula: A 22-year-old man was duped of Rs 1.5 lakh by a fake CISF employee who showed interest in taking his house on rent in Chandigarh. Police’s cyber cell has registered a case. Gursimran Singh, a resident of Sector-16, in his complaint, said he had put up an advertisement for giving his property in Sector-23, Chandigarh, on a mobile application.
Elderly man loses ₹2L in gas fraudPanchkula: A fake gas agency representative duped a 71-year-old resident of Panchkula of Rs 2 lakh in an online fraud. The cyber cell has registered a case. In his complaint to the police, Yashpal Singhal of Sector 20, said he believed a fake SMS regarding disconnection of gas connection at his daughter’s apartment in Pune and took steps accordingly.
