Chandigarh: In first-of-its-kind development, monthly meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the MC, scheduled for Friday, is not having any single developmental agenda items in booth main agenda and supplementary agenda copies as the MC finalized both copies on late Thursday evening. The financial paucity in the MC has reached a level that the authority completely avoided to keep any developmental nature agenda in both main and supplementary copies.
However, sources have said that some table agenda may come at the last moment in Friday’s meeting.
Significantly, the main copy of the meeting has only one agenda, which is confirmation of last F&CC meeting’s minutes, and the supplementary copy has three agenda items. These are related to the approval to organise chrysanthemum show in December and its estimated cost of around Rs 24 lakh, approval to reduce rental charges of Circus Ground in Sector 17 and to hire four monkey deterrent personnel to control the menace.
Mayor Kuldeep Kumar said, “Currently, the F&CC has only three agenda items and we will see later, if any developmental works related agenda can come up or not. Moreover, in the general house meeting, some agenda items will be there. Also, the officers are currently busy in meetings related to multiple subjects.”
Carrying three agenda items, the supplementary copy explains about all these.
The first is to organise the chrysanthemum show, which reads “The chrysanthemum show is held every year in Terraced Garden, Sector 33. Last year this show was held on December 3-10. Various competitions of this flower will be held as usual for which prizes will be given to the winners. Last year the administrative approval was accorded vide commissioner office for amounting to Rs 19.72 lakh and this year the approximate expenditure of Rs 24.22 lakh will be met.”
The agenda regarding hiring the monkey deterrent personnel states, “The nodal officer for monkey menace has submitted an urgent need of additional ‘monkey deterrent personnel’ to manage the escalating menace in the city. The MC has been receiving an increasing number of complaints regarding monkey menace. It is essential to ensure that a sufficient number of such personnel are available to effectively address these issues. Therefore, there is a requirement to engage four such personnel to effectively manage the menace in Chandigarh.”
The third agenda to reduce the rent of Circus Ground has given authorities the calculations to show the difference of the revenue by explaining the financial angle in detail. Moreover, the previous orders and proceedings of the meetings are also attached with the agenda item.
