CHENNAI: E V K S Elangovan, who won the recent bypoll in the Erode East assembly constituency, was sworn in as an
MLA on Friday. Tamil Nadu assembly speaker M Appavu administered the oath to Elangovan at the secretariat.
Chief minister M K Stalin, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K S Alagiri, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, MDMK leader Durai Vaiko and Congress legislature party leader K Selvaperunthagai were present.
Elangovan won the recently held byelections with a margin of more than 66000 votes. He was first elected to the Tamil Nadu assembly in 1984.
Later, replying to a question of reporters, Elangovan said he was not interested in becoming the Congress legislature party leader. “Selvaperunthagai is performing well as the Congress legislature party leader,” he said.
After taking oath, Elangovan met actor and MNM leader Kamal Haasan and thanked him for supporting him in the byelection.
