Odia actor Sachi Das dies at 90
Cuttack: Eminent Odia actor and theatre artiste Sachi Das died of multi-organ failure in Cuttack on Thursday. He was 90 years old. Das was ailing for the last few months and two weeks ago, he was admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack. On Thursday, his condition deteriorated and he breathed his last at 9:30am, said his daughter, Seemarekha Rout.
Known for his versatility who also donned the hat of director and playwright, Das’s performances attracted thousands, and ‘Saguna Basichi Dena Melei’ was his popular directorial venture in the world of jatra in Odisha.

It was the most acclaimed jatra till date in the state.
He was the recipient of the prestigious Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja Samman for his contribution to the field of performing arts. He was also conferred with the prestigious Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award in 2018 for his outstanding acting skill. On Thursday, his mortal remains were taken to Rabindra Mandap where many theatre artists, actors and directors paid their last respects. His last rites were performed at his ancestral village, Bari, in Jajpur district.
