FARIDABAD: A Delhi Police homeguard was allegedly stabbed to death by a father-son duo in a Faridabad village following a spat with them over bathing in the open on Saturday evening.
Police said Dharampal Kashyap (50) had just returned from work when Pawan Kaushik and his son Ajay approached him outside his house in Garkheda village around 7pm. After an argument, one of them whipped out a small sword and stabbed Dharampal in the chest.
As the homeguard slumped to the ground, they fled.
"My father parked his bike outside and called me and my brother to help him carry some construction material. Pawan and Ajay approached my father and started arguing with him. We didn't know they had a sword with them because they hid it under the shirt. In a couple of minutes, they whipped it out and stabbed my father in the chest," said Dipanshu (14), Dharampal's elder son.
The homeguard was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Dayalpur, from where he was referred to Badshah Khan Hospital. He was declared dead on arrival.
Bharat Kaushik (25), Dharampal's nephew, said the families were engaged in a long dispute.
"Their kids would bathe in the open despite repeated objections by my uncle. This would cause waterlogging in the area and cause inconvenience to anyone who passed the stretch. Around 15 days ago, my uncle had asked them to stop the kids from bathing in the open. But they abused him," he added.
"My uncle was known for his subdued nature. He ignored the neighbours and chose not to indulge them over this," Bharat told TOI.
Police said Dharampal was constructing a bathroom in the compound of his house. When the neighbour's kids took a bath in the open, it would damage the construction work, his family alleged.
Dharampal is survived by two sons and two daughters - all aged between 12 and 16. His wife passed away 12 years ago. "His children were his life. When he was not away at work, he would spend time with the kids," said Bharat.
The homeguard's relatives said police were yet to arrest the accused even after 24 hours of the alleged murder.
Surendra Kumar, the SHO of Chhainsa police station, said a case had been registered against the two accused under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intentions) of the IPC and provisions of the Arms Act.
