GURGAON: A 26-year-old driver was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh from the store of his former employer in Sector 66 on Wednesday. Police registered a case against the accused, and recovered the stolen items from his possession, cops said.
The accused is identified as
Sandeep from Rasulpur village in Palwal district.
According to inspector Santosh Kumar, on Wednesday morning, Sandeep entered the shop through a space in the rear wall for an exhaust fan. He broke the fan and widened the space using a hammer. Later, he entered the store and stole jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh.
"The next morning, when the store owner opened his shop, he found several items missing. Subsequently, based on the complaint of the store owner's brother, Prateek Verma, a case was registered against the accused under BNS sections 331 (4) (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night) and 305 (theft in a building)," Kumar said.
The Crime Branch arrested Sandeep from the Rajouri Garden area on Thursday. A bike and a hammer used in the crime were recovered from his possession, said an official.
According to Gurgaon police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar, the accused had started working as a driver for the jewellery store owner in July and was recently sacked.
