GURGAON: A sanitation supervisor with
MCG died after he was allegedly thrashed by a scrap vendor and his friends who believed that the 38-year-old corporation staffer had an affair with his wife.
According to police, the scrap vendor is on the run, but three of his associates were arrested on Friday.
Police said the incident took place on Aug 28, when Naresh Kumar was near a public health centre (PHC) in Madanpuri.
An associate, Vikas, kept track of Naresh's location and informed scrap vendor Ramveer.
"Around 10.30am, Ramveer and two of his friends Pankaj and Jitesh came on two bikes and forcibly took Naresh with them to an unknown location. The scrap vendor and three of his friends then thrashed Naresh for hours. Later, they left him near a private hospital on Basai Road," said Gurgaon police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar.
Naresh, cops said, got first-aid at the hospital and went back to his home in Dhankot village.
"After reaching home, Naresh told the family members that he was beaten up by Ramveer and tried to rest. But, in the evening, his condition suddenly deteriorated due to internal injuries and family members rushed him to a private hospital in Sector 43. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment," the spokesperson said.
Naresh's brother Jagbir Singh filed a complaint and an FIR was registered under sections 103(1) (murder),140(1) (kidnapping or abducting in order to
murder), 190 (unlawful assembly) and 191(2) (punishment for rioting) of BNS at New Colony police station on Thursday.
Police went to Ramveer's house in Ram Nagar, but he was absconding.
Sector 10 Crime Branch officials questioned Ramveer's family and on Friday, arrested Pankaj (19) of Jacobpura, Vikas (30) of Nangloi in Delhi and Jitesh (19) of Basai.
"The three of them are Ramveer's friends. Pankaj and Jitesh helped Ramveer in kidnapping Naresh. Vikas kept a watch on the movements of Naresh and all four of them were involved in assaulting the victim," a police officer said.
A post-mortem examination was carried out and its report is pending, police said, adding that they handed over the body to Naresh's family for last rites.
"During the interrogation, the accused confessed that they had kidnapped Naresh on suspicion that he had an affair with Ramveer's wife and thrashed him. They will be produced before a court on Saturday. The main accused is on the run and our teams are trying to nab him," the spokesperson said.
