Assam’s Charan Beel comes alive with traditional boat race
Guwahati: The serene waters of Charan Beel in Morigaon district came to life with an array of colours and infectious energy as enthusiastic rowers from across Assam participated in a state-level traditional boat race. The event, organised by the Morigaon administration, was aimed at promoting indigenous sports and celebrating National Sports Day.
The traditional boat race saw 48 players divided into 12 teams, with three teams emerging as winners.

The members in blue came first, those in green secured the second position and those in white stood third.
Apart from the boat race, the district administration organised various indigenous sports, including kabaddi, tug of war, and catching duck blindfolded. These events showcased the athleticism and agility of the participants while also providing a nostalgic experience for spectators. Over 1,500 enthusiastic players took part in the sports events.
Nandita Gorlosa, the state minister of sports and youth welfare, inaugurated the event in the presence of notable dignitaries and high-ranking officials. She expressed her commitment to develop water sports in the district and promised that all necessary steps would be taken to provide opportunities for the youth to excel in the field.
