Dibrugarh: Security forces recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition buried in the Upper Dehing Reserve Forest in Tinsukia district on Saturday.
Taking to X, Director General of Police GP Singh wrote, “Continuing our efforts against unlawful weapon holding, we have recovered one Heckler & Koch SMG, 130 rounds of ammunition, two magazines, and approximately one kilogram of PEK explosive powder from Tinsukia.
These items are suspected to belong to a proscribed organization active in the Assam-Arunachal border.”
The operation, carried out jointly by the police and the Army’s 6 Sikh Regiment, was initiated following credible intelligence regarding the hidden arms, said SP (Tinsukia) Abhijit Gurav. “We received secret information indicating that a cache of arms and ammunition was buried in the Upper Dehing Reserve Forest. Our joint operation led to the successful recovery of these items,” he added.
The recovery has heightened suspicion regarding the involvement of insurgent groups operating along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
