Remal triggers heavy rain in northeast, red alert in Tripura
GUWAHATI: Cyclone Remal triggered heavy rainfall in several parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur, although no report of substantial damage or casualty has surfaced so far. While the IMD has issued a red alert in Tripura, two NDRF teams deployed in the state have been maintaining a watch on the situation as more rainfall is predicted.

Two NDRF teams have also been rolled out in Assam.
Shella in Meghalaya recorded the highest rainfall (17 cm) in the past 24 hours (8:30 am on Sunday to 8:30 am on Monday), followed by Beki-Mathanguri and Lakhimpur in Assam, which experienced 10 cm of rainfall each. Aizawl and Kolasib in Mizoram, and Mawsynram in Meghalaya witnessed 8 cm of downpour. Cherrapunji (Meghalaya), Hnahthial (Mizoram), Ukhrul (Manipur), and Majuli (Assam) recorded 7 cm of rainfall, categorised as “heavy rainfall”.
Three flights connecting Imphal with Kolkata and other northeastern destinations were cancelled, while four Silchar-bound flights from Kolkata and Guwahati were also called off due to inclement weather warnings on Monday.
Flight operations were also disrupted at Aizawl and Agartala airports, with nine cancellations and one diversion at the latter. However, officials at Guwahati airport said scheduled flight operations were normal.
