Guwahati: The Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve, a Unesco natural heritage site in
Assam, is preparing to welcome visitors once again starting from Oct 1, following a four-month closure during the monsoon season, an official said.
The chief conservator of forests and field director of Manas Tiger Reserve said, “Consequent to completion of the stipulated monsoon closure period as prescribed by the Government of India, ministry of forest and climate change, National Tiger Conservation Authority.., it is hereby informed that the Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve, will be open for the 2024-25 ecotourism season with effect from October 1,2024, subject to relevant provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act,1972 and the Assam Wildlife (Protection) Rules,1997, till further notice."
Spanning an area of 850 sq km, the park was designated as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1985.
When the Centre launched Project Tiger in 1973, Manas was one of the first nine tiger reserves to be recognized in the nation.
Situated at the base of the Himalayas, the park not only serves as a tiger reserve but also an elephant and a biosphere reserve within the state.
