Row over ending MLAs’ namaz break: Poonawala & Biren back Assam CM
Guwahati: Under fire Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma found backers in BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla and Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh.
“Just because he was born in Assam.. Has Sam Pitroda’s spirit entered Tejashwi Yadav?,” questioned Poonawala.
“It is the character of the INDI alliance to not respect the Constitution and insult every person... Rahul Gandhi had started his Bharat Jodo Yatra Part 2 from the Northeast itself.
1x1 polls
He (Rahul Gandhi) should tell whether this is a statement to unite India?... On this, Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Gogoi should say when will they (Congress) break ties with RJD?.”
Standing behind Sarma, N Biren Singh shot back at Yadav calling him a racist towards people of northeast.
“It appears that the INDI Alliance is made up of a bunch of ignorant racists who have no information about the history & geography of our country. First, it was Sam Pitroda. Now, it's Tejashwi Yadav who is being racist towards the people of North east…,” Biren Singh shot back on X on Saturday.
“We are as much Indian as the rest of the country and we don't need to prove this. However, this racism of the INDI Alliance towards the North East must be stopped once and for all,” Singh added.

Earlier, JD(U) leaders opposed the Assam assembly’s move, JDU leader Neeraj Kumar said it would be better if Assam CM had focused more on lifting people above poverty.
"The decision made by the Assam chief minister is against the core principles of the country's Constitution. Every religious belief has the right to preserve its traditions. I want to ask CM Sarma: You are imposing a ban on Friday holidays during Ramadan and claim that this will increase work efficiency. A significant part of Hindu tradition is the Maa Kamakhya Temple--can you impose a ban on the practice of sacrifice there?" he told ANI.
Senior JD(U) leader K. C. Tyagi also joined in, saying the Preamble clearly says everyone has a right to follow their religion and traditions and the Constitution makers followed it.
