Vijayapura: The water level at the Lal Bahadur Shastri dam, also known as Almatti dam in Nidagundi taluk of Vijayapura district built across River Krishna has reached its maximum of 519.6 metres on Saturday. The Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir has and has reached its full capacity of 123.081 tmcft.
The inflow started on June 7. July saw good inflow of water, thanks to copious rains in Maharashtra and Ghataprabha basin.
The reservoir was not allowed to be full during July in order to avoid flooding. However with proper management by officials to avert any possible flooding, the water level in the dam has now reached its maximum. Preparations are on to offer ‘bagina’ to the reservoir on Aug 21.
