Imphal: Eminent Manipuri filmmaker Meena Longjam’s iconic flick ‘Andro Dreams’ is among 11 movies selected for the two-day 5th Korean International Ethnographic Film Festival in Seoul. With Koren sub-title, the film, which portrays the journey of a women’s football club in Imphal, will be screened on Friday.
The Korean Society for Visual Anthropology, organiser of the festival to be held at Cinematheque Seoul Art Cinema, stated that out of the 618 film entries, “we carefully selected 11 outstanding films that showcase the creativity and talent of filmmakers from around the world”.
Notably ‘Andro Dreams’ was the opening non-feature section film of the Indian Panorama at the ensuing 54th edition of the International Film Festival of India held last month in Goa.
“I’m so happy that my film is selected for the festival. The most exciting part is that the festival organisers have not only translated it into Korean language, but also given Korean sub-title. Now people of the East Asian country will get the real taste of ‘Andro Dream’,” Meena told TOI on Tuesday.
“When people, mostly youngsters from Manipur, are keen on Korean movies; now Koreans love the cinema from a tiny state nestling in the northeastern corner of India. This is also quite interesting,” said Meena, a resident of Uripok area in Imphal West district.
A doctorate degree holder in Mass Communication, Meena has won many awards as a filmmaker.
