JAMSHEDPUR: In the wake of frequent incidents of fire breakout being reported from different parts, the East Singhbhum district administration has announced to conduct fire safety audit of all government buildings.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Vijaya Jadhav said the basement of all the residential buildings would be surveyed by the municipal authorities to fix the responsibility of the building owner, where inflammable items such as LPG cylinder and discarded tyres are found.

The DC, in a press communique, said the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), the Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC), and the Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) will conduct the survey of the residential buildings located in their respective areas.
Besides, the administration will conduct safety mock drill in the crowded markets and other public places over the next seven days to study the response of the officials concerned to an emergency phone call.
The mock drill would be first held at Sakchi market to check the time taken by the fire extinguishing vehicle and the ambulance to reach the place of occurrence. It would also note the time taken by the disaster management team, the police, and the administrative officials to reach the spot.
DC Jadhav asked ADC Saurav Kumar Sinha to prepare a checklist of the measures needed in the event of fire incidents in markets and residential areas. The safety measures would be shared by experts from Tata Motors.

The fire control department would do the safety audit of the state and the Union government buildings.
Only 28 buildings including malls, hospitals, hotels, residential and commercial buildings, across the three municipal areas have valid fire safety NOC, as per the record of the district fire extinguishing department.
Notably, close to a dozen incidents of fire have been reported from Jamshedpur and adjoining Adityapur in the past one month. In the latest incident that occurred at Kadma on February 27, around 18 shops were gutted.
