JAMSHEDPUR: The movement of the trains between Tatanagar and Kharagpur section of the Howrah-Mumbai line remained partially affected for six hours, as a speeding goods train derailed at Salgajhari west cabin halt, around 7.30 am on Saturday.
According to the information shared by the Chakradharpur division officials, the locomotive of a goods trains onwards Tatanagar got derailed at Salgajhari, which is about 4km from Tatanagar.
Further, the derailed engine narrowly stopped from ramming into the locomotive of another goods train that was speeding onwards Tatanagar. "After overturning, the derailed engine came close to the locomotive of the goods train that was moving on the parallel track, a major
accident was averted," said a senior commercial official, who supervised the restoration work. Further, the official said that mishap hit goods train was carrying commodity, but what precisely it was containing, he is not aware. Senior DCM, Manish Pathak, said that due to the incident, movement of trains remained paralysed on the up line, while the down line was functional for the movement of the trains, travelling both on the up and down line.
