JAMSHEDPUR: Demanding justice for the slain doctor of RG Kar Medical College, women belonging to the rural areas of Chakuliya held a protest march on Tuesday.
Padma Shri awardee Jamuna Tuddu said, “The August 9 incident is shameful for the entire nation as it concerns the safety and security of every women. The demonic case, which was followed by reported efforts to cover up the crime, needs to be dealt with an iron hand.
Central agencies must fast-track the probe so that we are assured that the govt is concerned for our safety.”
The protestors burnt an effigy of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Another Padma awardee from Kolhan, Chami Murmu, said, “If a govt fails to give security to half of the population, then it is not competent enough to rule. If required, I along with other Padma awardees from the region, will write an open letter to the PM, demanding his intervention in the case.”
Meanwhile, the junior doctors of the Mahatma Gandhi Medical Memorial College Hospital (MGMMCH) continued their protest. Dr Ganesh Srivastva of the Junior Doctors’ Association (Jamshedpur chapter) said, “A delegation of junior doctors from the state met health minister Banna Gupta with their demand for full security at the workplace. Banna assured them that he would look into their issue and hold discussions with the CM at the earliest.”
