NEW DELHI: In two separate incidents, a man and a woman lost their lives in elephant attacks in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district, according to a forest official's statement on Sunday.
The first incident occurred when a man in his seventies ventured into the forest near Chauthia village early on Sunday morning to relieve himself. The elephant suddenly attacked him, dragging him some distance before killing him.
The second incident took place in Dighi village late Saturday night, where an elderly widow named Baso Hansdah was sleeping when a wild elephant attacked her house.

The elephant broke the wall, which collapsed on the woman, causing her death.
Saba Alam Ansari, the Divisional Forest Officer (Dhalbhum), confirmed both incidents and stated that more details were being gathered. Upon receiving information about the incidents, a team from the forest department immediately went to the location to investigate.
In response to the elephant attacks, angry villagers staged a road blockade on the Chakulia-Matiyana main road on Sunday morning, demanding appropriate compensation. Officials from the forest department and police arrived at the scene and assured the villagers that their demands would be addressed in accordance with the forest department's provisions, according to SDPO (Ghatsila) Ajit Kumar Kujjur. He also mentioned that both bodies had been sent for post-mortem examination.
