Ludhiana: Deputy commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Friday said seven cases have been recommended to the General Insurance Council (GIC) under the hit & run motor accidents scheme (2022) for Rs 2 lakh compensation till August this year.
Under the scheme, a compensation of Rs 2 lakh is offered in case of death and Rs 50,000 for seriously injured persons in cases where the vehicles involved in crashes cannot be traced.
Sawhney said that a district-level committee is in place to process the claims for the families of the deceased under this scheme. “To apply for compensation, the heirs of the victim (in case of death) and the grievously injured persons need to fill out form no. 1 and submit it along with the post-mortem report, death certificate, whatever the case is, Aadhaar card, Aadhaar card of heirs, copies of bank passbook, FIR and FAR reports, and any cashless treatment bill or the name of the hospital where the deceased person was treated,” a statement from the DC office said.
“Once the accident details are verified, the tehsildar, sub-divisional magistrate, or district office/deputy commissioner’s office of that area will send their report in form no. 2 along with a recommendation to the deputy commissioner. The case will then be referred to the General Insurance Council for further processing.” Sawhney also mentioned that more information and forms regarding the scheme can be taken from https://www.gicouncil.in/insurance-education/hit-and-run-motor-accidents.
