Ludhiana: In the third phase of the inauguration of Schools of Eminence in the state, Ludhiana is ready with two more SOEs, according to a letter from the education department. In all, 13 such schools will be opened in the state. The two schools to be opened in Ludhiana are School of Eminence, Millerganj (Dholewal) and School of Eminence, Kidvai Nagar (division number 3).
The executive agency for the construction of SoE Millerganj (Dholewal) is the public works department (PWD) and for SoE Kidwai Nagar (division no. 3) it is the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT).
On Saturday, MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi and deputy commissioner Sakshi Sawhney inspected the progress of the upcoming SOEs.
These SOEs will be equipped with smart classrooms, modern infrastructure, labs, CCTV surveillance, and playgrounds with facilities for various sports.
The deputy commissioner pointed out that the building work in both schools is almost completed, with only a few pending tasks. The inspection was attended by SDM East Vikas Hira, DEO Dimple Madaan, and officials from LIT, MC, and PWD.
Meanwhile, mis-session admissions are underway for non-SOE schools. Both SoE students and non-SOE students will be taught in the same school for now. The teachers may teach them in different shifts.
Talking to TOI, Ranjit Kaur, principal of SOE Kidwai Nagar (division number 3), said: “All the rooms of the new school building are complete, but the groundwork is yet to be started. There are around 40 rooms in the new building and one ground. Electricity work is pending.”
Hardeep Kaur from SoE Millerganj (Dholewal) said: “The new school building in Millerganj has 22 rooms. Some rooms may be converted into labs. For now, there is no infrastructure work done. In fact, there is not even a gate constructed. The new SOE building is around 1.5km away from this school.”
DC Sakshi Sawhney said: “The mission of the School of Eminence programme is to bring a revolution in the education sector for the holistic development and a bright future for the students.”
