Mangaluru: A cobbler, who has been working in a tiny, dilapidated shop for years, was overjoyed to receive a new petty shop on Tuesday. This gesture was made by the BJP Dakshina Mandala Backward Classes Morcha to mark former mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar’s birthday. The new shop is located in front of the RTO in Mangaluru.
Speaking at the event, Mangalore City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath remarked, “Raju Swamy, who mends shoes, footwear, and umbrellas, has been running his shop near the RTO for the past 40 years, and his previous shop had completely deteriorated.
In response, Diwakar Pandeshwar built a new shop for him for Rs 85,000, allowing him to continue his livelihood.” The former mayor’s commitment to social welfare is commendable, he added.
Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur also expressed his appreciation and said, “Diwakar Pandeshwar has a history of social service, including donating sewing machines to women and sponsoring scholarships to children. This time, on his 49th birthday, he built a shop for a poor cobbler. On behalf of the Mangaluru City Corporation and its citizens, I congratulate him.”
The event was attended by OBC Morcha vice-president Raghavendra, Harshith Kottari, Ramesh Kandettu, former mayor Premananda Shetty, deputy mayor Poornima, and others.
