Meerut: A team from UP food and civil supplies department in Bulandshahr on Monday investigated an alleged hoarding and black marketing of food grains meant for BPL cardholders through the public distribution system (PDS) in Jahangirabad area of the district, said officials.
Acting on a tip-off, a six-member team carried out the investigation at two PDS shops being run by two men identified as Rajesh Singh and Awadhesh Kumar.
The seized grains were then handed over to Jahangirabad mandi secretary Ramkumar Yadav.
Speaking on the matter, SDM Naveen Kumar said, “An FIR has been registered against Rajesh and Awadhesh under Section 3/7 of the Essential Commodities Act and relevant sections of IPC. Departmental action is also being taken against supply inspector Suyash Krishna and marketing inspector Mukesh Kumar, Syana, for their alleged lapses.”
Earlier in June, four officials, including district supply officer and the deputy regional marketing officer in Bulandshahr, were suspended by UP food and civil supplies department in Lucknow for illegally selling over 6,000 sacks with nearly three lakh kg of food grains worth over Rs 50 lakh meant for the poor.
