Man jailed for 5 years for kidnap

Madikeri: A local court in Kodagu has convicted a youth from Assam and sentenced him to 5 years rigorous imprisonment in a case related to the kidnapping of a minor girl.
District additional district and sessions court judge G Prashanthi on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on 22-year-old Sooraj. In case the fine is not paid, Sooraj must undergo imprisonment of six more months, a release from the Kodagu SP Office stated.
Sooraj was booked by Kodagu cops on the charges of kidnapping a girl in Mathikadu village on August 9, 2021. Somwarpet DSP Shailendra and his team had arrested the accused on August 11, 2021. The chargesheet was filed on September 28, 2021. Public prosecutor NP Devendra represented the state.
