Three chain robbers get 5 years of RI in 2017 case
Nashik: The district and sessions court judge Nitin Jiwane on Saturday convicted three chain robbers and sentenced them to five years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) with a combined fine of Rs 45 lakh.
The convicts were identified as Somnath Barve (30) of Chandsi, Nitin Pardhe (25) of Phulenagar, Panchavati and Anil Pawar (25) of Sayyad Pimpri in Nashik.

On April 22, 2017, a woman from Nanapeth, Pune, was robbed of her gold chain near the Laxmi Narayan Hall in Panchavati by the three robbers.
While the police initially registered a case of robbery under Section 392 of the IPC against the three robbers, with the consent of then CP Vishwas Nangre Patil, the police had also framed charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused.
The case was investigated by then ACP Sameer Shaikh and DCP Vijay Kharat, who were attached to the Nashik police at the time.
During the course of the hearing, the district and sessions judge found the accused robbers guilty under three different sections of MCOCA, following which they were sentenced to five years of RI and slapped a fine of Rs five lakh under each section.
The convicts will serve the sentences concurrently. If they fail to pay the fine under each section of the MCOCA, they will have to serve another six months in simple imprisonment.
