Nashik: The public works department of Nashik civic body has started filling potholes with tar, paver blocks, and GSB material following directives of district guardian minister Dada Bhuse.
Ganesh mandals, during a meeting on Friday, had complained to Bhuse about the pathetic condition of the roads across Nashik city. The recent incessant rainfall had further battered the roads.
The Ganesh mandals had blamed the poor condition of the roads on Nashik Municipal Corporation’s negligence. After he met with the mandals, the district guardian minister directed the NMC administration to repair the city roads before the Ganeshotsav that starts on Sept 7.
NMC officials said they have sped up the pothole-filling exercise across the six divisions of the municipal corporation. The heavy rainfall over the past fortnight had significantly damaged the roads, and the civic body could not take up the repair works in the rain. However, the showers have now stopped in Nashik, and the civic body has started the repairs, said the officials.
“We are filling potholes using tar, paver blocks and also the granular sub-base (GSB) across six divisions. We will complete the pothole repair exercise on all city roads before the Ganeshotsav begins,” they added.
“We have simultaneously started the work in all the six divisions of the municipal corporation. The process has been expedited since the showers have stopped,” said the NMC officials.
On Sunday, a team of NMC officials of the PWD department visited some pockets of the city to ensure that the road repair works are carried out properly. In the Nashik Road division, potholes were filled using tar, while potholes with greater depths were filled using paver blocks.
