Teacher held for sexual assault of Std IV student

Nashik: The Wadner Khakurdi police of Nashik Rural arrested a 56-year-old school teacher on Friday for sexually assaulting a Class IV student.
On Saturday, the accused teacher was produced in court, which remanded him in police custody till Sept 4.
Shishirkumar Deshmukh, the assistant inspector of the Wadner Khakurdi police station, said there is a small school near a village in Malegaon taluka.
“The accused teacher had allegedly been sexually assaulting the girl since she was in Class III. On Friday, the girl told her sister about the teacher’s actions. Subsequently, the family learned about it, and the matter was taken to the village elders. The villagers then contacted the school authorities and reported the matter, following which, police were called. The teacher was arrested,” said Deshmukh.
Deshmukh said an FIR has been registered against the teacher under sections 64 and 65 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other relevant sections of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
“Soon after we learned of the matter, we visited the village and carried out the legal procedure of initially detaining the teacher and then arresting him after conducting his medical examination. The education department too has taken strict cognizance of the matter and the teacher has been suspended.”
