Ghaziabad: A three-minute video recorded by Jagjit Singh Rana before dying by suicide led to the arrest of his wife and three in-laws on Tuesday.
On Monday, 30-year-old Rana, a businessman, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his home in Ankur Vihar.
Rana's wife Umakant alias Gudiya, his father-in-law Brajesh Kumar Solanki, brother-in-law Shivam Solanki, and mother-in-law Kusum Devi, all residents of Bulandshahr, were taken into custody after the police recovered three videos from the deceased's phone in which he blamed the four for mentally harassing him.
In a 3.4-minute video Rana claimed his wife and three in-laws were "humiliating and mentally torturing me to an indescribable extent". Rana was married to Gudiya in 2009, and the couple has two children.
ACP Ankur Vihar Bhaskar Verma said Rana's family informed the police about the suicide around 3 pm on Monday after they received the videos on WhatsApp. Based on the complaint lodged by Rana's brother, Yashpal Singh, an FIR has been registered against the accused persons under BNS Section 306 (abetment of suicide). "The accused were sent to jail after being produced in court," the ACP said.
