NOIDA: Over 200 residents of Supertech Eco Village 2 in Greater Noida West fell ill on Monday after consuming contaminated water. Most affected were children, exhibiting symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. The residents attribute the cause to improperly cleaned water tanks in the society.
The issue surfaced after residents of four towers, specifically C-4, C-5, C-6, and C-7, reported health problems.
These towers consist of 20-storey buildings housing over 160 flats. The residents suspect that the cleaning process of the water tanks, supposedly conducted over a three-day period last week, left contaminants that led to the illnesses.
Residents believe the cleaning was not executed properly, resulting in dirty and contaminated water. The aftermath has been severe, with many children falling sick. Abhiram Singh, a resident, shared his experience regarding his son's health.
"Since Monday morning, my 3-year-old son has been unwell. He has been experiencing diarrhoea, fever, and vomiting throughout this time. We have got him admitted at Surbhi Hospital in Noida. Presently he is undergoing some treatments."
In response to complaints, the society's maintenance team inspected the water tanks. They have collected samples for testing and promised to rectify any deficiencies found. The team also assured that action would be taken against those found negligent.
“Samples have been collected by the team for testing purposes. If any deficiency is found, it will be rectified soon and action will also be taken against those who are negligent.”
Another resident, Abhishek Singh, narrated the critical condition of his child after consuming the contaminated water.
"On Tuesday morning, I took my son to the hospital's Outpatient Department (OPD). He had been experiencing a fever accompanied by vomiting. Despite our efforts, his fever persisted and did not subside. The situation took a turn for the worse when he began having seizures. Upon witnessing this alarming development, the medical staff promptly transferred him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for immediate and specialised care."
A senior official from Bisrakh police station confirmed that the cleaning materials used during the tank cleaning process inadvertently contaminated the water supply. This led to various health issues among the residents after consuming the tainted water.
At present, the Greater Noida authority team is also present at the society to address the situation.
