Man gets 10 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting 4-year-old granddaughter in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: A fast-track court in Puducherry, which handles cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, on Thursday sentenced a 52-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting his four-year-old granddaughter.
Judge (Pocso court) M D Sumathi ordered Puducherry govt to pay a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the minor survivor.
The prosecution, led by special public prosecutor S Patcheappan, stated that the man was asked by his daughter to take care of his granddaughter while she and her husband visited a relative on Nov 12, 2018.
The man watched pornographic videos on his mobile phone and sexually assaulted the child.
The child cried in pain, alerting the neighbours who rushed to her rescue. The neighbours rescued the child and informed her parents, who then filed a complaint with Villianur police.
Police booked him under Section 6 of the Pocso Act, which deals with punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault, and arrested him.
