Raipur: A 90-year-old man diagnosed with
swine flu passed away on Friday evening at a private hospital in Bilaspur district. On the same day, 11 new cases of the
H1N1 virus were confirmed.
The ongoing spread of swine flu has raised concerns across the state, prompting health authorities to issue alerts.
This takes the death toll of swine flu to 9 in the state.
The elderly resident of Ujjwala Nagar was admitted to the private hospital on Thursday with symptoms of a common cold and cough.
As his situation deteriorated, he was diagnosed with H1N1 virus. His death was confirmed on Friday evening. No travel history was discovered, family of the deceased have been advised of home isolation and screening.
An 83-year-old man’s death was confirmed on August 26 in Koriya district, which has recorded two swine-flu related deaths now. With 11 more patients being discovered in Bilaspur, and with the cases rising, health authorities have increased screenings. More than 100 patients across the state have been identified with the positive virus. Besides urban areas, patients from rural areas including Chakarbhata, Khamtarai, and Kota have also contracted the H1N1 virus. Swine flu, caused by the H1N1 virus, is an airborne respiratory disease. Authorities have issued guidelines to prevent its spread.
According to medical officials, swine flu symptoms are similar to those of the common cold and fever. The flu can be particularly dangerous for young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with serious health conditions such as heart, kidney, or lung diseases, as well as those with high blood pressure or cancer.
