Vadodara: Damage to a culvert on a storm water drain under the road resulted in a big cave-in in Nizampura.
What’s more, civic officials also spotted two crocodiles inside the pit as the culvert was on the Bhukhi nala, storm water drain that flows from the north to western part of the city.
The crater appeared on the road leading to Navayard from the Deluxe Crossroads.
An examination by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials revealed that a culvert had been damaged under the road.
Congress corporator Jaha Desai, who represents the area in which the cave-in happened, said the culvert was made several years ago.
At least two crocodiles were seen inside the pit created by the cave-in. Desai said that this was not surprising as the drain was known to have crocodiles inside. Desai added that fresh water was also flowing inside the crater, indicating that some water supply pipeline was also leaking.
VMC commissioner Dilip Kumar Rana too rushed to the site and held discussions with officials. Desai said that Rana had assured that work will begin on the cave-in soon. Elsewhere, a minibus carrying school students got stuck in a pothole near Pashabhai Park.
