VIJAYAWADA: Industries department played a proactive role in making big-corporate companies jump into flood relief measures in the state. The industries department has knocked each and every industry to get support to the flood relief activities. Responding to the grim flood situation in Vijayawada, industries commissioner Dr Cherukuri Sreedhar shouldered the burden of speaking with the top bosses of industries in the state and convinced them to generously come forward to share the pain.
Sreedhar stayed back in the office in the last two days and continued his efforts to get support from the industry captains. He had also set up special taskforce in the office to coordinate with the executives of industries to receive relief material. The state govt had also appointed special officers to handle the relief works in the flood-hit areas of Vijayawada. The special teams in industries department established direct communication with the special officers to ensure the relief material reached required destination. With the constant discussions and follow-up from the industries commissioner, managements of several industries joined hands with the state govt in dispatching the food and other relief materials. Curiously, the industries are taking support from Akshya Patra foundation to get the fresh food prepared as part of the relief materials.
Responding to the Industries commissioner Cherukuri Sreedhar’s appeal,
ITC Agro Business Division (ABD) has donated food packets for distribution to the flood victims of Vijayawada. ITC has decided to send food material till the flood situation eased in the state. ITC limited has dispatched about 2000 food packets prepared at Akshyapatra central kitchen. ITC gave order to Akshaya Patra to provide quality and hygienic food to the victims. In addition to the ready to eat food packets, ITC has also sent about 15000 ready to consume sambar packets, 73000 biscuit packets, 3400 noodles packets (Yeppi), 6000 match boxes and 20 cases of juices for the flood victims. “We have handed over the stocks to the special officer Manjir Jeelani as per the advice of the industries commissioner Cherukuri Sreedhar,” said ITC vice-president (HR) P Veera Swamy. He said that they would assess the requirements based on the flood situation and continue the supplies for relief. “We feel it is our duty to respond to the call from the chief minister in view of the grim situation following the severe floods,” said Veera Swamy.
