Divyam Mehta, the label, was born out of a contemplated design philosophy intertwining native crafts with an edgy modernity. Each collection reflects an organic and rooted design voice, conveying an international aesthetic, which is relevant to today. Focusing on local textiles, artisanal construction details and relaxed silhouettes, the label interprets a timeless perspective where craft is woven in the soul of the garment. The process also explores the articulation of modern art into design patterns, prints and textures. The look subtly draws from the dressing style of indigenous cultures translating it into contemporary fluid forms. Hailing from a family of textile connoisseurs and designers, Divyam developed a deep love for art and design at a very early age. From making art from textile waste at his parent’s kids wear factory to honing his craft at the Pearl Academy of Fashion, his graduation collection won him the most avant-garde designer award. This was followed by a stint in fashion management at London College of Fashion. With a handful of artisans, Divyam launched his first menswear line in 2007. His first womenswear collection was debuted at the Wills India Fashion week in 2010 and received many accolades from buyers across the country. Reinstating the commitment to slow fashion and ethical business practices, the brand attempts to maintain a high standard of quality while producing consciously in limited numbers.
