Google Doodle celebrates classic popcorn with an interactive game

Google's latest Doodle pays tribute to popcorn with an engaging interactive game where players aim to avoid getting popped. This game supports solo or squad play against random global competitors, setting a record for the highest number of simultaneous players in a Doodle. Popcorn has been integral to movie theaters since the 20th century for its affordability and health benefits.

Any movie experience is incomplete without popcorn, whether you are watching it in a theater or from the comfort of your own home. From being a 2 AM snack to our movie companion, popcorn deserves much more acknowledgement than it gets. And today’s Google Doodle is doing just that—celebrating popcorn.
The update is not another animated doodle, but to make things exciting, Google has introduced an interactive game.
There is only one simple goal—“don't get popped!” The game allows the player the option to play ‘solo’ or with your ‘squad.’ And your competition is random players from around the world. This game has made Doodles history, as it allows “the highest number of players to compete in a match at the same time ever!”
Popcorn has been a constant in the movie theater experience since the 20th century. It is prepared in minutes, is easily affordable, and easy to cook—which meant that sellers didn’t need really expensive equipment to prepare it. But the best part is that it is not unhealthy like other snacks. As a whole grain, popcorn is high in fiber, which is good for our digestive health and also makes us feel full.
Popcorn was introduced in theaters to give them an economic boost. During the Great Depression, as per reports, consumers started spending more on cheap luxury products like cinema and popcorn. Seeing the pattern, the two sectors merged, helping each other grow simultaneously. Initially, few sellers were allowed to sell popcorn outside the theater, albeit they paid a daily fee. However, by the 1940s, theaters started their own stands inside the theater.
The classic buttered popcorn now has a few more varieties, ranging from chocolate caramel to cheese popcorn. While some like new flavors, others prefer their popcorn the old-fashioned way. Whatever your preference, popcorn is here to stay.
