Agartala: BGB on Friday handed over a kidnapped Indian national to
BSF in the presence of immigration and police officials of India and Bangladesh at the Belonia border.
The kidnapped individual, Chelaphru Mog (32), a resident of Radhanagar in Belonia, South Tripura, was abducted in Bangladesh last week. During a flag meeting on Thursday, BGB had informed BSF that one of the miscreants involved in the abduction has been arrested, and Mog is currently in the custody of Bangladesh Police in Chattogram.
Mog’s wife, Swapna, had received a ransom call demanding Rs 1 lakh for her husband’s release. She paid Rs 20,000 online but the abductor refused to release him without the full payment.
Swapna sought help from the police on Wednesday but faced harassment. She then approached the immigration office at Muhurighat check post, where an officer advised her to speak with the abductor and Bangladesh Police near the border, providing her with an immigration staff member as a companion. However, a BSF jawan misbehaved with the immigration employee and drove him away.
Swapna remained at the border with her son and received information from Bangladesh that the police had rescued her husband.
